Each May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) recognizes Older Americans Month (OAM), a time to celebrate the many ways older adults shape, strengthen, and enrich our communities. This year’s theme, “Champion Your Health,” focuses on prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as cornerstones of healthy aging. It encourages older adults to take an active role in managing their health, advocating for themselves, accessing preventive care, and making informed decisions that support independence and well-being.
Here in Alameda County, the Alameda County Social Services Agency’s (ACSSA’s) Department of Adult & Aging Services (AAS) has embraced Older Americans Month by building a meaningful, month-long celebration dedicated to honoring older adults.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors and the County Administrator, Susan Muranishi, for their continued commitment to supporting older adults through programs and services that help ensure aging with dignity, care, and connection.
At ACSSA, we recognize that supporting older adults means more than providing services; it means building a community where older adults are valued, connected, and empowered to thrive at every stage of life.
